Please, keep your seats and hold your applause. I'm just a guy. I like to write and I write a lot--marketing copy, articles, white papers, sales emails, text messages I regret--you get the idea. When I'm not writing, you might find me trying to fix this website, playing basketball, or promoting pseudoscientific theories about ancient civilizations. I'm a compulsive reader and a podcast addict. I love learning about emerging technologies and can talk ad nauseam about the transformative potential of ChatGPT, the metaverse, and cultivated meat. If any of that sounds remotely interesting to you we'll probably get along. If not, I'm sure we can find some other common ground; I've been called a "people person".

Case Study 1 of 5: Hungry

I was introduced to the founders of Hungry back in 2016. They had an idea for an app that gave chef entrepreneurs a platform for selling their meals directly to clients. As part of a team of six independent consultants, I helped develop and present a comprehensive go-to-market plan with recommendations for launching and scaling the business. Later, I would work with them again to build out a content strategy and optimize in-app messaging. I had no idea how successful they would be. Hungry has since expanded to more than a dozen cities across the nation and achieved a $200M valuation, with investors that include Jay-Z, Kevin Hart, and plenty of others.

Case Study 2 of 5: CQ

As a strategist at LMO, I was tasked with closing our biggest commercial prospect at the time, Congressional Quarterly. I proposed and led a 2-day design thinking session with the CQ executive team—and it was awesome! Then, for 24 sleepless hours after the session, I worked with our sales lead to synthesize everything we had learned—about CQ’s people, product, and customers—into a proposal outlining a campaign that could meet their goals. A day later, a contract was signed and we were in business. I’d work as a copywriter on the omni-channel campaign, which included digital and print ads (like the above, which ran in the Economist). Soon after it concluded, CQ was acquired by FiscalNote for $180M.

Case Study 3 of 5: Intern Office

My first startup. A crash course in building and selling a two-sided marketplace. As relatively recent college grads, a high-school buddy and I were well acquainted with the classic conundrum: “I need experience to get the job but I need the job to get experience.” We wanted to solve it by building a platform that connected college students with employers offering remote internships. After two years of app development, recruiting users, and pitching partners and investors, we had exhausted all our money and were close to losing our day jobs. We called it quits in 2016, but not before signing up thousands of students, a few major brands like Zappos, and inking one university partnership. Zero regrets.

Case Study 4 of 5: FI

FI Consulting is a boutique consultancy that specializes in data modeling, advanced analytics, and developing custom technology solutions for banks and government financial institutions. The company is filled with smart, forward-thinking people, and in 2020, they wanted their website to reflect that. They hired me to help. Working with a team of developers, designers, and SMEs, I provided technical writing and UX/UI recommendations over the course of the project. After several iterations, we launched FI’s new website in 2021, and they remain one of my favorite clients today.

Case Study 5 of 5: BeMeals

I began working with this Miami-based FoodTech startup in 2019 as a strategist at LMO, providing audience research, branding recommendations, and copywriting for product packaging and PoS collateral. I’d continue working with them as an independent consultant, helping to build the UX for the mobile app, optimize the offline experience for users interacting with their automated smart freezers, and leverage partnerships with local chefs. While the startup couldn’t maintain traction during the pandemic, the technology they were using to preserve nutrients and taste in frozen meals was amazing. I bet more companies expand on this idea in the future.
